BMW R80RT Das flugzeug

Today I put back the clutch on the engine, using the BMW tool to center it to be able to put back the gearbox on it. The particularity with the flat-twin bmw bikes is this clutch which is Ā«Ā dryĀ Ā», like on cars, in opposition to wet clutches as we can find on most of the bike. The engine and the gearbox donā€™t share the same oil.

Today Iā€™m remounting the rocker arms. I used special remounting oil which is like jam, which will stay to lubricate until the first start. I also used Motul 300V 15W50 to protect the steel parts from rust. The 4 rocker arms and their axles are brand new, bought in Germany. The fixation are also new, as the pushrods. I found these adjusting screw which are lighter and more easy to handle when valve adjustment needs to be done.

Today the opening of a gearbox. The one which was initially on the bike add half of the gears with defaults on teeth... After waiting 6 months to find the good deal, I found one gearbox from an R100GS with kick starter šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ I opened it to check the gears and change the 6 bearings and sandblast the covers.

Remounting of the engine, all the bearings have been changed and new high compression Wossner pistons šŸ˜ (but with shitty circlips šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬)

The R80 and her big sister the BMW R100R from 1995. Iā€™ve managed to find spoked wheels for the R80 which looks better to my mind than the aluminium one (second pictures). Iā€™ve also mounted a two discs brake system in the front instead of the stock monodies, with blue callipers šŸ˜
