Little progress this weekend. -Cleaned up the badges. 2 coats Rust-Oleum primer, 2 coats Rustl-Oleum flat black, and 2 coats Rust-Oleum clear coat enamel. Needless to say, I trust Rust-Oleum😂 (little bit of orange peel texture on the finish, my fault for letting it dry outside on a windy day) -Cleaned up the front fender (more pictures to come) -Started boxing out electric tray under the seat (more pictures to come)

May 2020: this weekend was dedicated to prepping the new gas tank. Stripped the paint, sanded down the rust, and flushed the inside of any built up rust. I used 100 grit then 220 grit sand paper with a palm sander. Then gave a rub down with marvel mystery oil to reduce oxidization. I’m loving the clean metal finish, thinking about leaving a clear coat over it till I decide on an actual paint color. We’ll see! Next up, repainting the Suzuki badges. #suzuki #suzukigs850

That same summer, the rear hoop was welded on the frame. Fitment is a little off in some areas but it works. Also, the actual 850 tank was purchased. Luckily it still had its original Suzuki badges. Battery, back end lights, other electrical components, and carburetors were pulled.

July 2018 : full year past. Over that time the GS1100 tank was cleaned up and with the dents re-filled, purchased a seat and new rear shocks.

July 2017: Decided to start off with pulling the tank and strip the flames. (Sorry to all those who might have appreciated the paint job and detailing.) Took multiple coats of Aircraft remover and PLENTY of sander. In hind sight, I wish I hadn’t done this because it turns out, the tank was for a gs 1100 and retro fitted to the 850. I eventually decided to purchase the correct size tank off eBay. Though I wouldn’t be using the 1100 tank, I could have kept that fun paint job as a reminder of where the bike started🙃
